Sarah Williams grew up in Scotland and spent many hours as a child sewing and playing with her dolls’ house. She learnt knitting, dressmaking and embroidery from her mother, who had trained as a domestic science teacher and encouraged Sarah to develop her skills.

In her teens, Sarah considered studying embroidery at university, but decided instead to study business. This led to a career in information management in the UK public sector. During this time, Sarah made patchwork cot quilts for friends’ babies, and visited quilt shows with her mother.

In 1997 Sarah renovated a dolls’ house for her daughter, and re-discovered the fascinating world of miniatures. Instructions for two small projects suitable for a child to play with were published in Dolls House World magazine during 1997.

At the end of 1998 Sarah moved to Australia with her family and took a break from paid work to spend time with her young children. This gave her more time to spend on miniatures, and she began experimenting with miniature patchwork.  She has built and furnished a miniature quilt shop to display her quilts - click here to see the dolls’ house being built.

After a period of part-time work while the children were in primary school, Sarah is now working full-time.  While this is very helpful for paying the mortgage and providing for the expenses of teenagers, it does not leave much time for miniature quilting.

Sarah lives in Sydney, Australia with her husband, two children, three rabbits and five chickens, not to mention the native birds and possums in the backyard!
